Relationship between cutaneous allodynia, cervical muscle strength and endurance in women with migraine

چکیده
IntroductionMigraine is a primary headache disorder with generalized neuronal hyperexcitability. Migraine individuals have high prevalence of cutaneous allodynia, neck pain, and reduced cervical isometric strength. Lower strength also known to correlate greater severity allodynia. However, the correlation between muscle endurance allodynia not yet known. ObjectiveTo evaluate in migraine women. MethodsSeventy women were recruited by local community advertisements. Were included aged 18 55 years diagnosis. An experienced neurologist diagnosed potential participants according third edition International Classification Headache Disorders (ICHD-3). Participants excluded if they underwent an anesthetic nerve block; presented any other concomitant headache, such as cervicogenic or tension-type degenerative conditions, history trauma at face, pregnancy. The Multi Cervical Rehabilitation Unit (MCU) was used assess endurance. The assessment obtained through three repetitions movement flexion, extension, lateral flexion. flexors extensors muscles using 50% maximum voluntary contraction. MCU device excellent reliability (ICC 0.92–0.99) for assessing endurance.Cutaneous evaluated Allodynia Symptom Checklist (ASC-12), reliable, quick, simple tool psychometric properties, compound 12 questions that allows classify questionnaire validated Portuguese language it able diagnose Brazilian population, order facilitate identification symptoms reliable fast manner (ASC-12). An association between migraine and cutaneous allodynia.
Recent animal studies on the mechanism of migraine show that intracranial pain is accompanied by increased periorbital skin sensitivity. These findings suggest that the pathophysiology of migraine involves not only irritation of meningeal perivascular pain fibers but also a transient increase in the responsiveness (ie, sensitization) of central pain neurons that process information arising from...
متن کاملIs phonophobia associated with cutaneous allodynia in migraine?
OBJECTIVE To determine whether phonophobia and dynamic mechanical (brush) allodynia are associated in episodic migraine (EM). METHODS Adult patients with EM were prospectively recruited. A structured questionnaire was used to obtain demographic and migraine related data. Phonophobia was tested quantitatively using a real time sound processor and psychoacoustic software. Sound stimuli were pur...
متن کاملReferred cutaneous allodynia in a migraine patient without simultaneous headache.
Cutaneous allodynia has been described in migraine. We report on a 39-year-old woman with migraine with aura who had cutaneous allodynia to both dynamic (brush) and static (pressure) mechanical stimulation between attacks. For both sensory modalities, the evoked pain on allodynia testing was located to the right frontal area (the location of her usual migraine headache), contralaterally to the ...
متن کاملCutaneous tactile allodynia associated with microvascular dysfunction in muscle
BACKGROUND Cutaneous tactile allodynia, or painful hypersensitivity to mechanical stimulation of the skin, is typically associated with neuropathic pain, although also present in chronic pain patients who do not have evidence of nerve injury. We examine whether deep tissue microvascular dysfunction, a feature common in chronic non-neuropathic pain, contributes to allodynia. RESULTS Persistent...
متن کاملCutaneous allodynia as a predictor of migraine chronification.
Cutaneous allodynia is a common feature accompanying migraine attacks and considered a clinical marker for central sensitization. In a longitudinal study, we wanted to investigate if allodynia in migraine patients is a predictor of increasing frequency of migraine days. We included 3029 well-defined, web-based migraine patients (86% female, mean age 42.8 ± 11.4 years, 61% migraine without aura)...
